Gold Coast Motor Festival’s Second Edition Wows Local and International Guests for the Second Year

Sino Group is delighted to share that Gold Coast Motor Festival, held its second edition at the picturesque Hong Kong Gold Coast precinct, delivering another mega event for motor aficionados from around the world and the Hong Kong public. It marks another milestone for Hong Kong’s annual tourism calendar in addition to putting Hong Kong on the international motoring scene.

With over 80 prized classic and collector cars as well as super and hyper cars on display, Gold Coast Motor Festival delivered a fun-filled weekend for local and international festival-goers with a carefully curated line-up of educational motor talks, live entertainment, eSports, art and family-friendly activities.

Automotive Heroes

Festival-goers had a chance to appreciate an impressive collection of iconic and coveted cars, highlights of which include the coveted Ferrari 250 GT/E, the hero car of this year’s Festival that was introduced at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1960; a Toyota 2000GT, famed as the first ‘supercar’ out of Japan and a 1926 Bentley 3 Litre, one of the oldest registered cars in Hong Kong. Up for display amongst the super and hyper cars, were the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, one of 20 ever produced and the glorious McLaren F1. The world’s one and only Pagani Zonda Fantasma Evo, was also on display.

Gold Coast Motor Festival is honoured that the French car manufacturer of high-performance automobiles, Bugatti, made the Hong Kong public début of the Bugatti Chiron at the Festival.

Concours d’Elegance

An esteemed panel of judges for the Concours d’Elegance was led by the Chief Judge, Mr Joseph Fung, renowned architect and car collector; the group of local and international judges included Mr Alain Li, Chief Executive Officer of luxury good powerhouse Richemont and United Autosports Racing driver; Mr Lawrence K K Yu SBS, MBE, JP, Honorary Life President of the Hong Kong Automobile Association; Mr Frank Yu, Founding Partner of Gravity Partnership & Craft-Bamboo Racing Team; Mr James Ogilvy-Stuart, Chairman of Aston Martin Owners Club (Hong Kong); Mr Douglas Young, Founder of Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) Lifestyle Group and an avid vintage car collector; Mr Adolfo Orsi Jr from Italy, Chartered Member of the International Chief Judge Advisory Group and collector car expert; HH Prince Rana Manvendra, vintage car expert from India and Mr Philip Rathgen, Chief Executive Officer of Classic Driver from Switzerland, to select the winners of the following five categories:

• Pre-1960s: Bentley 3 Litre
• 1960s: Mercedes Benz W113 Pagoda 280SL
• Best Ferrari: Dino 246
• Best Unobtainium: Toyota 2000GT
• Best of Show: Corvette Stingray

The ‘People’s Choice Award’, selected by public voting through the Gold Coast Motor Festival app, went to McLaren P1 GTR James Hunt Edition.

This year’s Concours d’Elegance was sponsored by famed Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre, which gifted a limited-edition Reverso, engraved with the Gold Coast Motor Festival logo, to each of the six owners. Meanwhile, Ascot Chang, the celebrated home-grown bespoke tailor, designed and featured the judges’ elegant suits and attire.

Hong Kong’s premier motor celebration

The comprehensive and thoughtfully-curated programme provided something for everyone at the Festival with live performances ranging from jump rope routines to hip hop to drum performances, as well as eSports in collaboration with VLT and Microsoft Xbox, and an international range of festival-themed gourmet cuisines. Action-packed family-fun attractions included children’s electric car racing, car-themed inflatable bouncy castles and a mini-train ride along the scenic trail at Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel.

The esteemed Conours d’Elegance judges carefully assessed the cars to select the winners in five categories. Each of the owners received a limited-edition Jaegaer LeCoulture Reverso, engraved with the Gold Coast Motor Festival logo and sponsored by the famed Swiss watchmaker. Ascot Chang, the celebrated home-grown bespoke tailor, designed and featured the judges’ elegant suits and attire.
